Peter Selby Skills Hero.

He may not be as famous as Stella McCartney or Alexander McQueen, but his talent is up there with the industry´s best – that was the verdict on Peter Selby, who received a top industry award as one of the fashion and textile sector´s hidden heroes.

Peter, who is our textile technologist, is one of only 50 people across the whole of the UK to receive a “Behind the Seams” award from Skillfast–UK, the Sector Skills Council for fashion and textiles.

Linda Florance of Skillfast-UK, who sponsor the awards, explains, “Famous fashionistas are always in the headlines, but even they would acknowledge that the fashion and textiles industry couldn't function without the creative and technical teams who work out of the public eye. We launched the Behind the Seams Awards to honour those whose skills normally go unrecognised. Without their abilities, UK businesses would not be up there, competing with the world´s best.”

Peter´s all round knowledge of both fabric and garment construction won him the award and his expertise has allowed Rowlinson Knitwear to progress its programme of product development and improvements to quality. He works as part of a team where his talents are used to their full potential to bring new products to market. This is the lifeblood of any textile organisation which has its sights on being best in the market.

Receiving his award at Rowlinson´s Turncroft Lane factory, Peter Selby said, “I´m delighted to get a Behind the Seams Award.  I´ve worked in the industry for many years and have been fortunate enough to acquire many useful skills in both manufacturing and retail.”
